What MicroAGP and Micro PCI?
MicroAGP sockets are 144-pin sockets that are used in CPU cards as expansion
slots. Of the 144 pins, 132 pins are assigned for standard AGP signals, 7 pins
for VGA, and other 5 pins for ground and VCC. With MicroPCI, 120pins are for
standard PCI signals and other 24 pins are for VGA and Ethernet interface signals.

What are the advantages of MicroAGP and MicroPCI?
CPU cards with MicroAGP/MicroPCI sockets offer practical advantages that make
them the better choice for the industrial computing market today. They offer
the following advantages:
Optimum Flexibility and Expandability
MicroAGP/PCI CPU cards utilize small-size sockets to let you save PCI slots
or other expansion slots. MicroAGP cards offer superior VGA power with various
interfaces, such as LVDS, TMDS, TV-out and 2nd CRT. With MicroPCI sockets you
can choose MicroPCI daughter cards with the functions you need to add or even
remove from your system whether it is VGA, Ethernet, SCSI or RAID.
Higher Reliability and Less Failure Rate
MicroAGP/PCI CPU cards and boards work with higher reliability and lower production
failure rate. By designing them with better component placements, IBASE come
up with more reliable and improved-quality products.
Cost Effectiveness
Better quality control, more efficient production, and minimal failure rate
brings RMA costs to a minimum. Normally, CPU cards are designed with double-side
components and pose difficulty in manufacturing and quality control. However,
MicroPCI makes it possible to place the components on a single side.
Efficient and Cost-Effective Inventory
Normally, you have to keep a long list of inventory to accommodate CPU cards
that integrate various functions. For instance, a single product mix for an
item with functions such as VGA, Ethernet, and SCSI alone would result in 8
models. The MicroAGP/PCI solution creates a simpler and cost-effective inventory.
Longer Life Cycle
Intel®'s Embedded Division will be supplying chipsets at least in the next
five (5) years. On the other hand, controllers for VGA/Ethernet/SCSI cards
would most likely be available for a shorter period. By using the MicroAGP/PCI
interface, upgrading and adding extra functions are not only workable but issue
in a longer product life cycle.
Dual Ethernet Support
With MicroPCI sockets, CPU cards from IBASE can support dual Ethernet interfaces
that are essential to eliminate downtime and meet your critical availability
needs.
